Tariku Shiferaw is a New-York-based artist who explores mark-making in order to address the physical and metaphysical spaces of painting and societal structures. Shiferaw recently exhibited his fourth solo exhibition, This Ain’t Safe, at Cathouse Proper in Brooklyn, NY (2018). Other recent exhibitions include the 2017 Whitney Biennial as part of Occupy Museum’s Debtfair project; a group exhibition titled, A Poet*hical Wager at the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland; and a solo show, Erase Me, at Addis Fine Art, at their London project space (2017). He is a current participant in Open Sessions at The Drawing Center, NY (2018 - 2020), as well as the Independent Study Studio Program at the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY (2019). His work has been featured in Hyperallergic, The Washington Post, and Art in America magazine. Shiferaw was raised in Los Angeles, CA, and currently lives and works in New York. He received his M.F.A at Parsons School of Design (2015) and his B.F.A from University of Southern California (2007).
